Eurex Circular 083/23 Equity and Basket Total Return Futures: Introduction of UK ETRF products denominated in GBX (Great British pence) and amendments to contract specifications

1.   Introduction

The Management Board of Eurex Deutschland took the following decisions with effect from Monday, 6 November 2023

  • Introduction of new GBp (GBX) denominated Equity Total Return Futures (ETRFs) pursuant to Attachment 4 (Annex G) to the Contract Specifications for Futures Contracts and Options Contracts at Eurex Deutschland (hereafter: Contract Specifications),
  • Amendments to the contract specifications of ETRF/Basket Total Return Futures (BTRF):
  • o    Allocation of UK ETRFs to two buckets (collateral schedules - Group IDs) for 73 underlying equities.
  • o    Addition of new Profiles for accommodating the new Buckets and allowing standard terms and limitations, similar to other Basket Trades of Equity Total Return Futures.
  • o    Addition of definitions of expiry day and final settlement day to allow the separation of expiry day (on which all calculations for ETRF products are done) from the final settlement date (performance day).
  • o    Addition of UK specific reference overnight interest rate (Sterling Overnight Index Average - SONIA), UK settlement calendar (Clearing House Automated Payment System - CHAPS) and UK market convention (Act/365).

This circular contains all information on the introduction of the new products and the updated sections of the relevant Rules and Regulations of Eurex Deutschland.

Production start: 6 November 2023

2.   Required action

Participants interested to trade ETRF/BTRF will need to fill in and submit the “Application Form for Participation in Trading/Clearing of Basket Trades Functionality” for the assignment of the ETRF product capacity and entitlement to Basket Trades functionality. The form will be sent to the participants via their Key Account Managers.

No further registration is required for the participants already active in trading ETRF/BTRF. However, it is recommended that the participants completely analyze the potential impact of the above changes.

3.   Details of the initiative

A. Product overview

Please refer to Attachment 2 for the list of the new UK ETRF products.

B. Contract specifications and product parameters

Please refer to Attachment 3 for the amendments to the Contract Specifications for ETRF/BTRF and to Attachment 4 for the Annex G to the Contract Specifications for Futures Contracts and Options Contracts at Eurex Deutschland.

C. Admission to the Eurex T7 Entry Services (TES)

The new products will be admitted to the Eurex T7 Entry Services (TES). You can find the minimum block trade sizes on product level in the attached Contract Specifications (Attachment 3).

D. Transaction Size Limits (TSL) Product Group

The new products will be included in the following TSL Product Group – “ETRFGB”

E. C7 Capacity and Product Group

Please find the respective table in Attachment 1. 

F.  Fees for the UK ETRF products denominated in GBX (Great British pence)

The transaction fees, cash settlement fees and maintenance fees as shown in Attachment 1 shall apply to the new UK ETRF products.
