Eurex Exchange’s T7 Disaster Recovery Test on 15 October 2022

Eurex Circular 078/22 Eurex Exchange’s T7 Disaster Recovery Test on 15 October 2022

1.  Introduction

On Saturday, 15 October 2022, Eurex T7 will participate in the industry-wide Disaster Recovery (DR) test scenario organised by the Futures Industry Association (FIA). Eurex Exchange will offer a test scenario according to its T7 disaster recovery concept. This particular DR scenario will render the T7 back-end of the primary data centre inaccessible. The co-location facility will still be accessible and co-location customers will still be able to access the DR data centre.

The DR test window will be available in the afternoon (Central European Summer Time) according to the following schedule:

Start of DR scenario test

13:00 CEST

End of DR scenario test

16:00 CEST

Start of production environment re-connect test

17:00 CEST

End of production environment re-connect test and shutdown of T7 production

18:00 CEST

The T7 production environment will be re-started for the business day 17 October 2022 on Sunday evening, 16 October 2022, at the usual time.

Learn more about our T7 Disaster Recovery test concept on our dedicated initiative page under the following link: Support > Initiatives & Releases > Project Readiness > T7 Disaster Recovery Test. System documentation, circulars, timeline and much more information is available there for you.

2.  Required action

Participation in the T7 Disaster Recovery test is not only strongly recommend by Eurex but it is also seen as an essential part of the industry’s disaster recovery readiness. Please make sure that your Chief Operations Officer as well as your Chief Compliance Officer are made aware of the test and that it is treated with the required priority.

Eurex kindly requests all Eurex Trading Participants to regularly take part in the T7 Disaster Recovery test.

Participation will serve to ensure that all requirements and demands for the transition to the disaster recovery environment are met and that the necessary emergency procedures are in place and have been successfully executed on a regular basis.

The validation of these emergency procedures is crucial for Eurex and its Trading Members not only to be compliant with the respective Business Continuity Processes but also to ensure continued market integrity.

All Trading Participants are kindly requested to provide Eurex with the respective feedback regarding their T7 Disaster Recovery Test planning by Friday, 16 September 2022 at the latest.

Feedback can be provided using the T7 Disaster Recovery Test Feedback Form. For your convenience an online submission process has been set up:

Please enter your dedicated Eurex PIN in the online questionnaire. The PIN for your company has been sent to the Central Coordinator.

3.  Details of the initiative

This particular DR scenario will simulate a partial outage of the primary Equinix data centre (FR2) facility. In such a disaster recovery scenario, Eurex Exchange’s T7 infrastructure regularly used for its T7 simulation environment will be re-used to serve as disaster recovery production infrastructure. However, the co-location facility will remain up and running and affected Members which have access to the DR data centre will be able to participate in the test.

During a DR test exercise, production reference data will be used, including User IDs, T7 GUI SSH keys and ETI sessions. Changes which have been made to this reference data will NOT be copied back to the production environment after the test. It is not advisable to perform any changes to this data during the test exercise.

While order entry, modification and deletion will be possible during the DR test exercise, any order book or trading information created during the DR test exercise will NOT be transferred back to the production environment.

The following Eurex T7 interfaces will be available during the DR test exercise:

  • Eurex T7 Trader- and Admin-GUI
  • Enhanced Transaction Interface (ETI)
  • FIX LF interface
  • Eurex Market Data Interface (MDI)
  • Eurex Enhanced Market Data Interface (EMDI)
  • Enhanced Order Book Interface (EOBI)
  • Reference Data Interface (RDI)
  • Reference Data File (RDF)
  • Common Report Engine (CRE)

Trading Participants taking part in the DR test exercise can expect to receive market data via MDI, EMDI and EOBI and read reference data via RDI or RDF. Order and quote entry will be possible via ETI, FIX LF and the Trader GUI.

The disaster recovery test exercise can be regarded as successful when at least one of the three following conditions has been met:

  • EITHER a message “Connection Test Eurex <hh:mm:ss>” appears with an increasing sequence number in the market news view (news board) of the T7 Trader GUI or the T7 Admin GUI
  • OR a successful session or trader login via ETI has been performed and EMDI/EOBI/RDI heartbeats have been received.
  • OR a successful session or trader login via FIX LF has been performed and EMDI/EOBI/RDI heartbeats have been received.

The following Eurex T7 interface will NOT be available during the DR test exercise:

  • Extended Market Data Service

Eurex Clearing’s C7 will also take part in the DR tests. Please refer to the document “Eurex Clearing C7 FIXML Failover Testing 2022” for further information. The document is also available on the Eurex Clearing website www.eurex.com/ec-en/ under the link: Support > Technology > C7 > Network Access

Deutsche Börse AG will also be offering a disaster recovery test opportunity for the trading venues Xetra and Börse Frankfurt on the same day, allowing both Eurex and Cash Markets Trading Participants to test DR scenarios simultaneously.

Please refer to the document “T7 Disaster Recovery Concept - Interface Configuration Details” for further details on the test scenario and all required network changes. The updated document will be available end of August on the Eurex website www.eurex.com/ex-en/ under the link:

Support > Initiatives & Releases > T7 Release 10.1 > Network Access

After the DR test has been completed, the regular production environment will be made available for a certain time period for a re-connect test in order to allow Trading Participants to adapt their configurations and test connectivity to the production environment if required.
