Eurex Group | Eurex

Face to face with Rex Jones

Rex Jones

Mr. Jones, how long have you been with Eurex Exchange and what did you do before you joined our company?

I joined Eurex in 2001 fresh out of college after graduating in Business Administration. My Diplom thesis analyzed the impact of stock exchange mergers for corporate governance systems, and I landed a job with my case study - Eurex is the result of one of the first stock exchange mergers globally, between the German DTB and the Swiss Soffex.

What is your personal background at Eurex?

I first worked as sales specialist in Index Derivatives. After 2 years there, I ventured into product development to establish Market-Making in fixed income options and develop trading system enhancements such as the Strategy Wizard for trading of complex option strategies. In 2007, I became Vice President, and took on responsibility for volatility index derivatives. Today our VSTOXX® products are liquid and accessible to a wide range of investors globally.

For which products or sector are you responsible?

We are focused on the conception and development of products and trading system enhancements, to create new liquidity pools for our clients. Within the Product Research and Development team for rates and FX, I am responsible for rate options and Market-Making. I am also quite active in regulatory and pricing matters.

What are your current tasks?

More recently I’ve been evaluating a new product idea on making fixed income volatility tradable with a bespoke product and sounding its design and potential with buy and sell side investors. The MIFID II Consultation Paper is out, and we’re busy drafting and coordinating responses for key topics like transparency and market making.

What are your favorite activities besides working for Eurex?

Our 3 year old son takes up most of my spare time. For fun I like to run or go rollerblading, and am never shy for a ski trip to the Alps.

Thank you, Mr. Jones
