Originally planned as a live conference in beautiful Amsterdam, the forum was – like many other plans this year – disrupted by Covid-19. But that didn't stop Eurex from holding its Derivatives Forum anyway, but rather digitally. Jointly held with our partners ABN AMRO Clearing, Acuiti and DerivSource, this was a very entertaining and informative event, putting the focus on the effects of the Corona crisis on the derivatives industry.
Thomas Book, Eurex CEO, welcomed speakers and participants and pointed out how much he would have loved to meet them all face to face. On the other hand, he continued, he certainly would not have had the chance to welcome participants from 34 countries in Amsterdam.
Three moderators and 14 speakers showed their expertise covering, among other topics, “Scenarios in the time of Corona”, “COVID-19 – The Impact on Clearing and Margin Management Today & Tomorrow” and “What will be the impact of the coronavirus on equity derivatives markets?”. That these were the right topics at the right time could be seen from the lively participation in the Q&As that took place after each topic.
“I am convinced that digital events should continue to play a vital role for the industry in a low carbon emission post COVID world permitting us to connect and exchange across the globe”
Cornelius J. Müller, Head of Marketing Eurex
The Digital Derivatives Forum has shown that relevant and pertintent topics can be engaging in any format. The participants could actively shape the discussion with a survey distributed in advance and live poll questions. The only thing missing was the subsequent networking – but that's the way things are this year.
“Great event and well organized. Hope next time we can shake elbows again.”
Harold de Boer, Managing Director, Transtrend
