GFF Summit: A cordial invitation and some valuable information

A blog by Frank Gast, Managing Director at Eurex Repo GmbH and Head of Funding & Financing Sales Deutsche Börse Group

Frank Gast

I hope you are all safe and sound and that I will see many of you at Clearstream and Eurex’s joint Global Funding and Financing (GFF) Summit 2021 from Tuesday, 2 February, to Thursday, 4 February 2021 – even if, unfortunately, only virtually this year.

In the ramp-up to the summit, let me take the opportunity to quickly recap 2020 and take a look at what’s ahead.

Eurex Repo business update
As challenging as 2020 has been for all of us, at least it produced good news for Eurex Repo’s business: the trade volumes across all market segments increased by 13.8%. During the first half of 2020, we also saw very positive figures in GC Pooling. The Repo Market has also grown significantly since the launch of our Repo Partnership Program. For those of you who are interested in more detailed figures, have a look here. Based on the program terms, we will review the Partnership Program and are planning a recalibration later this year.

Following client demand, we have successfully introduced two new GC Pooling Baskets (CTD France & CTD Germany) and launched multiple GC baskets. For this year, we are planning the launch of a dedicated GC Pooling JGB and US Treasury Basket and strengthen our activities regarding the set up of Balance Sheet Netting between the GC Pooling and the Repo Market.

The first standardized repo product incorporating ESG data
That is something I am really excited about: following our overall Fixed Income, Funding & Financing strategy, we have launched a Green Bond GC Basket. This essential new segment allows asset managers and real money accounts – who have already adjusted their investment policies to be ESG-compliant – to manage their money market activities accordingly. The initiative has been welcomed by market participants and industry bodies as a signal of industry intent and a first step on a much-needed learning curve.

In the upcoming weeks, we will start the next phase with a detailed client consultation. This will not only improve the set-up of the existing Green Bond Basket but will enable us to collect ideas and client input for any amendments or additional baskets.

As you can see, there’s a lot to talk about next week. Most of you have probably already signed up. And if you haven’t, taking a look at the agenda on our website should do the trick.

Another note on this subject: our Working Committee, which we usually host on the Tuesday afternoon in Luxembourg before the GFF Summit, will take place this year on 2 March 2021 from 15:00 to 16:30 CET. As in the previous years, you and/or your nominated delegates will receive a separate invitation for the meeting shortly.

That is all for today, stay healthy and I meet you at the GFF Summit.
