It was just the perfect start into the new decade for leading market players, regulators and industry bodies: from 28 to 30 January, more than 700 delegates from all over the world gathered in Luxembourg to join the annual Global Funding and Financing (GFF) Summit.

Under the motto “By the market, for the market – experience, innovation, solutions” the first day saw Peter Griep, Director General Markets at Deutsche Bundesbank, as keynote speaker focusing on regulation and industry-based alternatives after Brexit as well as highly informative panels on recent regulatory and industry developments. Kicked off by the keynote speech by Nasir Zubairi, CEO of Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT), the second day revolved around the opportunities and challenges of innovative solutions and new technologies were jointly explored.
Key topics discussed were the commercial, technological and regulatory pressures and the future roadmap for both repo and securities lending as well as developments on the buy side and current and future trends in collateral management.
The participants from Deutsche Börse Group represented the joint expertise of Clearstream Banking, Eurex Clearing and Eurex Repo across the entire lifecycle of collateral management and also included Deutsche Börse AG experts on new technologies.
Everybody was highly satisfied with the outcome and the vibrant atmosphere during the event. Tilman Fechter, Head of Banking, Funding & Financing of Clearstream and chairman of the GFF Summit, said: “We need experience to start innovation and to create sustainable solutions for the future. The GFF Summit showed again how important it is to work together towards a joint goal, not only for the funding and financing area, but for the whole financial industry.”
“My personal highlights were participating in a really thought-provoking panel on CCP Resilience, Recovery, and Resolution, as well as listening to our keynote speakers on both days. I also had the privilege to join the Women in Finance networking event – I think a great success,” says Matthias Graulich, Member of the Executive Board of Eurex Clearing and Managing Director of Eurex Repo.
Many thanks to all those involved in planning the GFF Summit 2020 as well as to all the speakers and attendees!
