The World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) today published its annual report analyzing trends in the exchange-traded market in 2020. The Derivatives Report 2020 is based on the WFE’s annual survey of derivatives markets, which includes voluntarily provided data from WFE members, affiliates, and other infrastructure providers.
Among other results, the report found that 2020 saw an increase in derivatives trading volumes of over 40 percent compared to 2019, largely attributed to heightened levels of uncertainty and volatility due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic early in the year. This increase in volume was seen across all regions, with the share of volume per region remaining largely unchanged. Other key results include a sharp rise in ETF derivatives trading (up 65 percent compared to 2019) and a fall in interest rate derivative volumes (down 12 percent).
Read more about these findings, and many others, in the full report here.
